OMPT means Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. OMPT is currently the only certified therapy recognized by the American Medical Association. The training received is very similar in nature with didactic and residency training for a Medical Doctor.
OMPT is a post-graduate/advanced certificate program through Oakland University for physical therapists designed to develop specialized manual therapy skills. OMPT training involves university coursework with a minimum of two years of postgraduate education and over 2000 hours of clinical residency training and theory.
OMPT takes a different and better treatment approach from that of traditional Physical Therapy.
Traditional physical therapy focuses on the treatment of mere symptoms. At times this may work, however the symptoms often return due to the fact that the real cause of the problem may not be addressed in this approach. The treatment of “referred pain”, pain that is occurring somewhere other than the cause of the pain, can lead to an inaccurate physical therapy evaluation and ineffective treatment.
OMPT’s focus is on advanced structural differential diagnosis. This assures we are treating the source of the problem not just the symptoms or “referred pain”. With this approach, we are able to not only treat current symptoms associated with the diagnosis but also address biomechanical deficiencies at play to work proactively to prevent injury in the future. Peak Performance Physical Therapy spends one-on-one time to properly diagnose the specific problem and provide customized manual therapy and therapeutic exercise training programs.
OMPT’s focus on thorough evaluations by better-trained practitioners, hands-on techniques and cause-based treatments. Ultimately, we strive to improve the quality of range of motion, maximize function and comfort.
Research shows that patients that have had failed success with traditional physical therapy often have better outcomes with OMPT treatment.
All of the physical therapists providing treatment at our clinic are OMPT trained. We believe that each and every person that comes to our clinic deserves the best treatment possible.
A vast majority of OMPT cases (approximately 99%) are covered by insurance. Patients benefit from this because there is no additional cost for the patients for this better-quality care.

Peak’s maintenance program bridges the gap between physical therapy and independent home management. Our staff will create an exercise program designed for your specific needs, allowing you to continue the progress you made in physical therapy. Your initial appointment will be scheduled with a physical therapy technician who will assist and educate you in the exercises. Subsequent visits can be used at any time during normal business hours.
Personal Training Programming:
Peak’s groups training programs focuses on individual strength training within a group setting. This can be sport specific for teams and clubs, or goal oriented for weight loss and strength building.
